Dalton, Ga. - For the third consecutive year, Mohawk Industries has been included on Newsweek magazine's annual ranking of the 500 greenest U.S. companies, making it the only soft and hard flooring manufacturer to be included in 2011.
"Mohawk is honored to be ranked among the leading manufacturers and service providers in Newsweek's annual green rankings," said Bill Kilbride, chief sustainability officer. "This recognition is a testament to the commitment and hard work of all of our employees as we strive toward sustainability."
In this year's list, Mohawk moved up in position to 292nd place in overall sustainability, up from its No. 350 ranking in 2010. Mohawk ranks ninth among all consumer goods manufacturers.
Mohawk Industries noted its sustainability strategy focuses on its products, processes and people. Claiming to be one of the largest recyclers in the flooring industry as well as a leading provider of renewable flooring, Mohawk said it diverts more than three billion pounds of material from landfills each year.
In July, Mohawk released its second annual sustainability report. The detailed reporting earned Mohawk high marks for Disclosure, which is a new calculation in the Newsweek Green Rankings scoring system. In Newsweek's Disclosure category, Mohawk ranks in 122nd place.
"I'm particularly proud that we earned such a high ranking in disclosure since we have taken great pains in our reporting to provide our stakeholders with credible, verified information," said Kilbride. "To be recognized for this by the Newsweek team is proof that doing the right thing is valued and appreciated."
