Decosit broadens base, alters name to MoOD

Ghent, Belgium – After 30 years as a mostly upholstery fabric-driven exhibition, but still featuring decorative fabrics from sheers to multi-purpose constructions for the residential market, Decosit will change its name to MoOD, reflecting its new focus on all fabrics.

The range of products will include curtains and sheers, outdoor fabrics, and a variety of innovative textiles – for both residential and contract uses.

Decosit, which is held at the Brussels Expo in Brussels, Belgium each September, typically from Saturday to Tuesday, also will change its schedule to a Tuesday through Friday schedule falling on Sept.8-11, 2009. In recent years, it adopted the DecoContract identity for exhibitors in that segment, and Decotec for exhibitors of “innovative fabrics.”

The name change, said Patrick Geysels, general manager, comes as a result of the Decosit nomenclature bringing to mind the upholstery fabric segment designed for the residential market. “In the past we picked exhibitors that had a major portion of their offer in residential upholstery. But they also could offer curtains or sheers. Now we will accept companies with only curtains or sheers or specialists in wall coverings or contract.”

MoOD, Geysels explained, stands for “meet only original designs,” one of the criteria for acceptance into the newly named exhibition. “We are looking for quality exhibitors. We will add new exhibitors, but we are not going to change our position on Chinese exhibitors. We allowed a few in several years ago, and for now are not going to add more,” he said. This year there were six Chinese suppliers at Decosit.

Contract will continue to be a growing part of the new MoOD. This was a segment that started as an adjunct to the residential segment in 2001 as DecoContract.
