Port Washington, NY - Celebrity interior designer Thom Filicia has been selected to participate in the 2012 Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club Decorator Show House, and will incorporate his licensed products in the space, including a new eco-friendly hemp and jute rug from his home collection with rug house Safavieh.
Dubbed the "most influential decorator show house in the world," the 40th annual Show House will be open from May 16 through June 14 at The Aldyn, a modern building located on Riverside Boulevard between 62nd and 63rd Streets off West End Avenue.
To help build awareness of the Kips Bay Show House, for which admission proceeds benefit the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club, Safavieh and Filicia will run a promotion on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest starting today. The contest asks dealers, designers and consumers to guess which rug from Filicia's new collection will be used to decorate his Kips Bay interior. All correct answers will be entered in a Safavieh random drawing for one Thom Filicia's hemp and jute rugs. The winner will be announced on May 15.
"We are so proud that Thom has chosen one of his Safavieh rugs to showcase at Kips Bay. This is one of the most important events in the interior design business: it blends decorative arts with the finest design talents in the world, and to have our product on display is a distinct honor," said Arash Yaraghi, a Safavieh principal.
Safavieh's Thom Filicia Home rug collection, which includes seven designs, is an extension of the designer's exploration of eco-friendly carpet fibers and weaves with Safavieh, the company said.
"Thom is a strong proponent of green design and a Designing GreenLeader with the Sustainable Furnishings Council," Yaraghi noted. "He was on the cutting-edge when he prodded us to develop organic jute and hemp rugs as soft as wool. As a result we were a year ahead of a trend that is now resonating with designers and consumers."
Filicia rugs in the line "use a rich gradation and detailed layering of color, giving them a beautiful ease and approachability juxtaposed with strong and smart patterns. The combination creates an elegant balance. The rugs have a smart and sophisticated stylish aesthetic, and are made with a beautiful hand."
Hand-knotted in India, the collection is designed to bring a transitional and colorful look to the eco-friendly rug category. As with all Thom Filicia licensed home products, the rugs are named for settings associated with the designer's childhood in upstate New York. A 6-x-9 is priced to retail for $1,199.
