Calhoun, Ga. - The president of area rug and home accessories manufacturer and supplier Surya, Satya Tiwari, has been named the recipient of the 2013 Jerry Gans Memorial Award by the Greater Metropolitan Home Furnishings Association (GMFA).
The award is presented each year to an individual in the home furnishings industry who has provided distinguished service to the industry.
Since joining Surya as president in 2004, Tiwari is credited with leading the company to consistent year-over-year growth, reaching $64 million in revenues in 2012. Under his guidance, the brand's diverse assortment ranges from opening to high-end price points.
Surya is also active in community outreach such as its support for nonprofits East Meets West and the Akshaya Patra Foundation, which provide food and other life-changing resources for impoverished students across India and Vietnam.
"Satya is widely respected in the home furnishings community, not only for his ability to run a profitable business, but also for being a good friend to his suppliers, and a role model to his employees," said Andy Gans, for whose father the award is named. "His leadership is reflected in the way Surya is perceived in the industry and by its customers."
Tiwari said: "I am truly honored to receive the Jerry Gans Memorial Award. I share this award with our Surya team members who all work very hard each day not only to provide our customers with the most on-trend and innovative products but also the best service possible."
Tiwari will be presented with the award at the GMFA Dinner and Dance, which will be held on Dec. 7 at The Palisadium in Cliffside Park, N.J.
