NRF seminars underway

The National Retail Federation's 91st Convention and Expo is currently underway at the Jacob Javits Center, ending Wednesday, Jan. 16.

The convention's remaining Super Sessions for the week include "Who's Minding the Future?", scheduled for Tuesday from 8:45 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. This seminar will discuss how to handle flagging consumer confidence and the industry's uncertainty, as well as introduce a proprietary study prepared by Andersen and Texas A&M University that addresses redefining retail, the resulting impacts and opportunities, and changes retailers need to make. Panel members include Bill Podany, chairman, president and ceo, ShopKo; Leonard Riggio, founder, chairman and ceo of Barnes & Noble; and David Szymanski, director, Texas A&M University Center for Retailing Studies.

The following session, "Reinventing Retail," from 10:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., will discuss the key skills and assets that retail leaders have used to invent and reinvent themselves to continually impress customers and shareholders.

Other seminars include "Consumer Behavior in a Multi-Channel Retailing Environment," Tuesday from 7:45 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.; and "Dealing with U.S. Customs After September 11 — What Retailers Need to Know to Protect Their Supply Chain," "Internet and Multi-Channel Retailing Strategic Priorities" and "The State of Fashion 2002," all running from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

The seminars on Wednesday include "Improving Your Bottom Line Through Online Auctions," "Taking Your Store Planning Process from Fat to Lean," and "The Homogenization of Global Retailing," from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
