Shop.org creates Think Tank to tackle industry issues, review trends

Washington D.C. - In hopes of addressing some of the ecommerce industry's key challenges, National Retail Federation's digital division, Shop.org, is bringing together leading digital retail executives and solution providers to create a special Think Tank.

The group is being led by Shop.org's executive director, Vicki Cantrell, and Sur La Table vice president of e-commerce, Kevin Ertell, who serves as chairman of the Think Tank.

The group will collaboratively identify and develop points of view on trends, business models, technologies and strategies that will shape the future of online retail and the role of digital in retail. In addition, Think Tank will regularly produce analysis for the Shop.org community and industry events, including a quarterly white paper.

In its first published white paper, "Same-Day Delivery - Do Retailers Have to Go There?" the Think Tank suggests strategic, tactical and competitive questions for retailers to consider in launching same-day delivery service.

"The digital retail landscape is constantly changing and evolving at a rapid pace," said Ertell. "Analyzing the many considerations and questions around same-day delivery, an issue many retailers are grappling with right now, has already been both thought-provoking and immensely rewarding."

The paper, the first of the quarterly series, is now available for Shop.org members to download on the Shop.org web site. Think Tank is also inviting input from the Shop.org community about topics to analyze in future articles.
