Dalton, Ga. - One year after the launch, upscale rug house Karastan is building up its assortment of high-end but more affordably priced USA-made nylon rugs with three new collections.
Knightsen, Carmel and Artois are all woven on domestic Wilton looms of premium quality two-ply nylon yarn. The company said they "combine Karastan style with durability and easy maintenance."
The Knightsen collection reinterprets timeless designs in modern color schemes. It features relaxed traditional motifs in two new rugs: Prewitt Ranch Ginger, which depicts an oversized ivory border that is enhanced with multiple smaller borders that together surround a ginger-colored field strewn with palm fronds and vines that are accented in shades of sage and olive green; and Summerset Camel, which employs Turkish-inspired elements in shades of red, plum, sage and slate that dance on a camel-colored field surrounded by a narrow red and plum border.
Artois is a collection that Karastan described as "embracing today's expressive style with a sense of the modern. It offers daring looks in fashion colors." Patterns include clean-lined geometrics, painterly abstracts and mid-century modern designs. New looks are: Halle Fog, artistic swathes in curvilinear shapes splash across the floor in shades of gray, brown, sage and teal; and Auby Bone, brushstrokes of brown, tan and gray cross a field of bone in an abstract landscape.
The Carmel collection is a diverse grouping of relaxed living looks with decorator-friendly, fashion-inspired colors. A selection of floral motifs, sophisticated graphic patterns and modern damasks make for easy decorating choices. New to Carmel are: Mission Street Coral, an oversized ivory and camel floral damask pattern that sits like delicate lace on a stylish stria'd coral background; Poppy Hills Bone, a medallion styles that uses an isolated element from the Pescadero Ginger rug and is one of the patchwork-style rugs in the collection; and Fern Canyon Sage, a transitional rug with a garden motif of small ivory and camel leafy vines that frame a serene open field of sage green.
All the rugs in these collections can be custom hand-seamed "to create custom size rugs in a fraction of the time it would take to weave and import a similar piece," Karastan noted.
Available sizes include: 2'11"-by-4'8", 2'4"-by-8'3", 5'6"-by-8'3", 8-by-10 and 9'6"-by-12'11".
The suggested retail price for a 5'6"-by-8'3" is $499.
