Kmart holiday survey: home decor items a low priority for shoppers
November 15, 2001-- Home Textiles Today,
Troy, MI — Kmart and Capital One today released the results of a holiday shopping survey that asked 3,500 consumers what they considered the most sought-after gifts this year.
The winning category, not surprisingly, was electronics/home entertainment, 40.9 percent. The second highest category: "anything red, white & blue," 26.6 percent.
Home decor — with 8.5 percent — outranked only books & music (6.2 percent) and "other" (3.0).
As has been the case with most polls regarding holiday 2001, the Kmart/Capital One survey found that mass merchants and/or discounters will do the lion's share of the business this holiday. A whopping 78.4 percent of respondents said they plan to do most of their shopping in the channel.
