Glenoit Extends Rug Fabrications

At the New York Market — Glenoit's rug division has come out with several new programs that demonstrate "the fruits of our labor over the last two years," said Debbie Powell, vp, merchandising.

It was during this period that the company established a strong manufacturing foothold in China, enabling it to create a wider variety of rug constructions and styles.

"We now have access to more sophisticated machinery, so we've been able to come up with a lot of new things," Powell explained.

One example is a bulky loop-on-loop construction "that maximizes the use of the yarn and its look," she said.

Another new construction is a cotton loop in multiple heights, "creating more texture and depth," she said.

The Popcorn collection employs a new tufting technique that uses a high-low loop construction, which makes these olefin rugs look like cotton woven rugs from India, "except these are durable," Powell pointed out.

"Working overseas, we've been able to be more innovative, but maintain our same price point levels," she added.

All of Glenoit's accent rugs are made of olefin.
