Marvin Lazaro, November 27, 2000

WEST POINT, GA -In a move to further streamline its operations, WestPoint Stevens Inc. announced it will phase out its trucking operations at its Greenville, SC, terminal.

According to a statement released by the company, based here, the move will be completed within six to eight weeks. WestPoint Stevens will, however, maintain its other terminals in Burlington, NC, and Valley, AL.

"We must streamline our trucking operations to achieve maximum flexibility and to meet changing needs within the company as we continue to enhance customer service," said David Bradshaw, general manager, logistics, operations and planning.

Seven tractors and drivers will be relocated from Greenville to Clemson, SC, for use at WPS facilities in the Clemson, Seneca, Calhoun Falls and Greenville areas.
