Nourison helps under-privileged kids in Vegas get ready for school

Saddle Brook, NJ - In time for the back-to-school rush, area rug house Nourison this month partnered with the "Never Give Up Foundation" to host a special event for foster and adopted children in Clark County, Las Vegas.

Nourison contributed 250 pairs of shoes for children ranging in age from 5 to 16 years old at the back-to-school event, which was held outside Nourison's permanent showroom located in the lobby of Building C of the Las Vegas World Market Center.

"We are very happy to contribute to this worthwhile event for these wonderful kids, especially since it is literally in our own backyard in Las Vegas," said Alex Peykar, principal at Nourison. "We believe strongly in giving back to the community we live and work in - whether it is in Las Vegas, New York, Atlanta, High Point, New Jersey, China or India."

Catalina Pericon, Nourison's Las Vegas showroom manager, helped the company make the connection. For several years, she has worked closely with the foster care system in Clark County. Pericone and her husband have since 2008 opened their home to 11 children from the foster care system. They have legally adopted seven and are in the process of adopting the other four.

"It is heartbreaking to see these beautiful children without homes or parents who love them," said Mrs. Pericon. "I wish I could take them all home."

Pericon also serves as the director of the "Never Give Up Foundation," which was founded by Matthew Cox and Dr. Kelly King and focuses on helping children with learning disabilities and their families. The foundation is a resource for the Clark County Foster and Adoptive Parent Association and also partners with the Department of Family Services on various programs.

"The majority of the children with learning disabilities come from the foster care system," noted. Pericon. "This includes ADD, ADHD, autism and PSTD. Our role at the ‘Never Give Up Foundation' is to educate parents about their child's condition and to also help the children deal will their illness."
