Wal-Mart Creates New Exec Posts
Wal-Mart named Bill Simon coo and Pat Curran evp of People, both new positions in the company, reporting to Eduardo Castro-Wright, president and ceo of Wal-Mart Stores U.S. The five operations presidents in the company will report to Simon, who joined Wal-Mart from Brinker Int'l, where he was senior vp of global business development; he held prior posts in the Florida state government and with consumer firms Diageo, Cadbury-Schweppes, PepsiCo, and RJR-Nabisco. Curran started at Wal-Mart in 1983 as an hourly associate and by 2003 was promoted to svp of operations for the mid-Atlantic and Southeast areas
Bon-Ton to Expand Brand HQ
The Bon-Ton Stores will expand its Milwaukee, Wis., private brand and store operations center by July. Byron Bergren, president and ceo, said, "With the addition of approximately 100 new associates to support our expanded operations, we have outgrown the original office space. The private brand organization, which was purchased along with the Carson's stores in March 2006, is an integral part of our business and this additional space will facilitate the expansion of our private brands."
Kmart Selects Draftfcb Agency
Sears Holdings Corp. subsidiary Kmart has chosen Draftfcb as its advertising agency of record, effective May 1. Formed last year, Draftfcb spans 110 countries, with more than 9,000 employees, and is part of the Interpublic Group. Bill Stewart, Kmart chief marketing officer, said, "As a company, we're committed to building lifetime relationships with our customers and Draftfcb has a proven track record of helping its clients achieve success by utilizing a full range of marketing tools and capabilities."
Family Dollar Promotes Causey
Family Dollar Stores has elevated Bryan Causey to senior vp - planning, allocation and replenishment, reporting to Charles Gibson, executive vp - supply chain. Most recently vp - planning and merchandise control at the 6,300-unit neighborhood discounter, Causey "has worked tirelessly to create more disciplined planning processes and to develop strong cross-functional teams focused on driving improved inventory productivity," said chairman and ceo Howard Levine.
