MSLO taps Stein to service Home Depot license program

New York - Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc. has appointed Janet Stein, a longtime retail industry veteran, as the company's new senior vice president, merchandising.

Stein's brand experience includes Donna Karan Home, Michael Kors and Coach. In her new role, she will focus on the company's license partnership with The Home Depot.

Most recently, Stein was with Hästens Beds Inc. as its regional manager for North America, running all North American operations for the company. Prior to that she served as director of sales for MICHAEL Michael Kors Footwear.

"Janet has an outstanding record of developing strong merchandising partner relationships," said Patsy Pollack, senior executive vice president of merchandising at MSLO. "Having worked with her in the past, I have tremendous confidence in her abilities and know her rich retail experience will bring solid leadership to our team."

I'm Tom Russell and have worked at Furniture/Today since August 2003. Since then, I have covered the international side of the business from a logistics and sourcing standpoint. Since then, I also have visited several furniture trade shows and manufacturing plants in Asia, which has helped me gain perspective about the industry in that part of the world. As I continue covering the import side of the business, I look forward to building on that knowledge base through conversations with industry officials and future overseas plant tours. From time to time, I will file news and other industry perspectives online and, as always, welcome your response to these Web postings.
