Tampa, Fla. – Swedish home furnishings retail chain IKEA is gearing up to open its third store-and-restaurant location in Florida – this one in Tampa. It also represents the sixth site in the Southeast region and 37th in the United States.
The grand opening is scheduled at 9 a.m. on May 6.
Construction began last summer on this new 353,000-square-foot store.
“We believe the remaining construction milestones and interior build-up process will be complete by May – much earlier than originally envisioned,” said Monica Varela, store manager. The store is now in the process of hiring and training 400 staffers.
The product assortment will comprise 10,000 exclusively-designed items and the layout presentation includes 49 room settings, three model home interiors, a supervised children’s play area, a 350-seat restaurant serving Swedish specialties such as meatballs with lingonberries or salmon plates, as well as American dishes, and 1,700 parking spaces.
Family-friendly features will include a "Children’s IKEA" area in the showroom, baby care rooms, preferred parking and play areas in the store.
IKEA’s other two Florida units are in Orlando and the recently opened Sunrise (Ft. Lauderdale area) store.
