Another Solid Week For Comp Sales
May 17, 2012,
NEW YORK - Strength in seasonal merchandise continued to lift comps during the fourth week of March, when same-store sales rose 3.8% following a 3.6% gain a week earlier, according to the Johnson Redbook Retail Sales Index.
Comps in the discount channel climbed 4.4%, while they increased 2.6% in the department store channel.
"Spring business, which focused on seasonal apparel and outdoor categories, was aided by warm weather in many parts of the country," said Catlin Levis, Redbook analyst.
She added: "Easter buying continued to show its traditional territorial bias, and was more intense in the southern states."
