Hoffman Estates, Ill. - On top of the some 120 stores Sears Holdings announced it would close this year, it now plans to shutter another 62 units.

According to reports from The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg and the Associated Press, Sears plans to shutter 43 Hometown stores, which are individually operated units often in rural locations, along with 10 Sears Hardware stores and all nine stores Great Indoors units.

The company last month announced it would spin off the 1,061-store Hometown unit. It is unclear what the move to close 43 of those stores indicates about the progress of the strategy.

The Associated Press also reported earlier this week the Sears will eliminate apparel departments in 10 Sears stores, filling the space with its such as mattresses and furniture.
