Carole Sloan -- Home Textiles Today, October 5, 2009
Engineered or panel prints that run up the bed or horizontally, lots of embroidery detailing, appliqués and creative pleating are among the major fashion statements in the new Donna Karan Home bed and bath collection for spring.
In DKNY, City Clover sports a fresh cherry red color blocking with tuxedo pleating and lots of appliqué treatments. Botanical Garden uses a sheer appliqué floral on sateen, while Dusk Oasis features an engineered panel up the bed of embroidered and appliquéd flowers with ruching detail.
Spring Blossom, an engineered floral in broad horizontal alternate striping in citron and blue, is both printed and embroidered. Soho Garden is a mini comforter set, part of the new four-style comforter grouping, with black and white flowers on an ivory cotton ground. Enchanted Forest is a panel print with chain embroidery and tailoring with satin detailing.
Retail for the queen duvet cover in DKNY is $159.99; the mini-comforter sets are $259.99 and $299.99, queen.
In Donna Karan Home Collection, Sapphire Night is a new color in the ottoman striped duvet, part of Modern Classics, while Silk Bed Scarf sports a printed silk bed scarf design in rose/gold and green/taupe.
In Essentials, orchid and champagne are new colors in City Block, a color blocked silk taffeta.
Pure DKNY features Pure Comfort, a garment-dyed organic cotton bed accented with dyed-to-match buttons, and Block Print, a color block leaf motif in teal/navy, reversing to navy/white.
