Walmart top shopping destination for Black Friday

New York - Walmart came out on top in a big way on Black Friday, according to a survey of brick-and-mortar shoppers. The retail giant was by far the most popular destination, besting competitor Target with more than twice the number of total shoppers.
Those are the findings from Placed Insights, which compared shopping trends from over 125,000 U.S. smartphone survey participants who agreed to share their location.
Among department stores, Macy's took the top position, followed by J.C. Penney, Kohl's, and Sears. Retailers that chose to remain closed on Thanksgiving, including The Home Depot, Lowe's, Sam's Club, and Costco still had strong showings on Black Friday. All four retailers were on the list of Black Friday Top 10 retailers.
In addition, Walmart.com said it had its biggest sales day in history on Cyber Monday. The five-day period from Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday was the highest five-day stretch in online sales for the retailer to date. Walmart.com processed more than one billion page views during that period, according to a statement from the company.
Walmart.com is trying to extend the good cheer by offering 200 online specials every day through Friday. During the holiday season, Walmart.com is offering free shipping on all orders of $35 or more - nearly 99% of Walmart.com items are eligible. Online orders can also be shipped to local Walmart stores and in many instances, be picked up as early as the same day.
