Green Bay, Wis. - Shopko has retained retail industry veteran Peter McMahon as its new ceo.
McMahon most recently served as the chief operating officer at Loblaws, Canada's largest food retailer with over $30 billion in sales. Prior to that, he held various senior level positions with Wal-Mart in Germany and Japan and Tesco in central Europe.
"Peter is highly collaborative and has an outstanding track record of driving results and solving complex business problems," said Scott King, senior managing director for Sun Capital Partners. An affiliate of Sun Capital owns Shopko, which operates nearly 350 stores in 22 states.
King said McMahon's supply chain expertise will help the company grow its Shopko Hometown store format, which serves smaller, rural markets.
McMahon commented, "Shopko has established and is executing a winning strategy to provide a broad general merchandise offering with best-in-class quality retail health services to smaller underserved markets. I'm extremely optimistic about the company's future potential and am eager to get to work."
