Northwest covered for Super Bowl

NEW YORK — Hedging its Super Bowl bets and ready for any outcome, The Northwest Company is ready to start shipping winning team throws within 48 hours of the end of the game.

As it has for each of the past few years, Northwest has worked up special Super Bowl editions for each of the teams involved in the game and will start the jacquard looms running the minute the game is over on Jan. 28, said Stan Mieszkowski, vp, sales and marketing.

Northwest has worked up the art well in advance, "and we've got looms set up to go both ways," said Mieszkowski.

"This has turned out to be a nice little plus business for us," he told Home Textiles Today. "If the New York Giants win the game, we'll probably sell 20,000 to 30,000 throws. And if it's the Ravens, we'll do 7,000 to 15,000 pieces."

Northwest has worked up the art for each of the teams involved, and "the deliveries move out of the Northwest plants on a first-come, first-serve basis," he said. "We start shipping within 48 hours of the game, and the first shipments go to the people who got their order in the earliest." Like anything else, even the Super Bowl has a short shelf life, he said, "and we'll be shipping for only a week and a half."

The acrylic jacquard Super Bowl throw is 48 by 60 and is priced at $15.95.
