BOMBAY, India—Leading Indian bed linen producer Vigneshwara Exports is bringing its proven design and manufacturing expertise to the U.S. retail market.
Founded in 1985, the private family-run firm has been the largest Indian supplier of sheet sets, comforters, decorative pillows and window treatments to the European market for the past three years, generating annual sales of more than US$ 34 million. Vigneshwara launched its first collection for the American market earlier this year, targeting the medium to luxury retail segments.
Vigneshwara is investing more than US$ 43 million in a new manufacturing facility to support its growth in the U.S., as well as to expand its business in the domestic market. This new mill will feature state-of-the-art technology in weaving, printing and finishing, including more than 300 wide-width Picanol air jet and dobby looms capable of weaving up to 1,200-thread-count fabrics.
The facility also will produce yarn-dyed fabrics featuring up to 12 colors in the weft. Once construction is completed, Vigneshwara will produce more than 43 million meters annually. The company currently has 848 employees, and will be hiring an additional 738 employees for the new facility.
In addition to the new mill, Vigneshwara is investing more than US$ 1 million in a research and development department to develop new fabrics, weaves and finishing techniques. The company’s in-house design studio, based in the United Kingdom, specializes in designing innovative, high-quality home fashions at competitive prices, and the company prides itself on its ability to handle both small customer requests as well as extremely large orders.
