Nourison puts accents on Kathy Ireland, Waverly
September 26, 2013,
"We have worked hard to create very fresh, very innovative new products for each of these important brands," explained Julie Rosenblum, Nourison's executive director of licensing. "We worked very closely with the design teams at both Kathy Ireland and Waverly to come up with products designed especially for the accent rug customer that speak specifically to a diversified demographic audience."
Drawing directly from the brand's aesthetic and style guide, Nourison has developed new Kathy Ireland rugs that are "reflective of her universal offering," Rosenblum explained. "European country, Americana and many others, Kathy Ireland's aesthetic appeals to a universal audience covering all categories of design themes and a timeless palette."
Two accent rug groupings within the Kathy Ireland Home by Nourison program are: Protean, a printed cotton chindi; and Boreal Forest, a machine-washable style from the brand's Jardin/Nicholas Walker style guide.
Nourison is also showing a line of Kathy Ireland bath rugs -- three cotton styles, including Plush Solutions; and one memory foam rug called Total Comfort.
Being previewed here, in advance of October's High Point market, are two new area rugs for the brand. "Cottage Grove is a hand-loomed rug and offers a new take on a bordered rug because it features a cut-and-loop border on a hard-twist field," Rosenblum said. "And Griot, named after an African storyteller, is a wool flatweave featuring different types of stripes, and it goes back to Kathy Ireland's Ivory Coast style guide."
She added: "We're excited about these rugs. Our Kathy Ireland collection is really growing quickly."
Six new accent rugs, one new area rug and a new indoor/outdoor assortment of rugs are all being introduced this market to the Waverly program.
All were inspired by the enduring brand's core patterns, "so each of the different collections is an extension of a pattern, a design or color palette," Rosenblum explained.
Some of the new accents are taken directly from Waverly patterns. These include the jute/polyester/cotton Ambiance, the printed cotton Art House and the printed jute Color Motion, among others.
Others rely more on the palette, like Rustic Charm - a braided construction made of jute and features a Waverly color story.
"It's about understanding their DNA," Rosenblum said. "We use it and apply it to our category to bring the best product to the marketplace."
The Waverly area rug is called Grand Suite and it is a hand-loomed wool loop pile space-dyed product "that is beautiful." It comes in the one design, which is available in seven colorways.
For fun in the sun there are 10 new skus being added to Waverly's "Sun and Shade" indoor/outdoor collection of 100% polyester varieties that feature printed patterns and are made in China.
