TECHNOLOGY: App Offers Deals to Target Shoppers

Target is betting that shoppers will walk around with their smartphones or tablets primed to score bargains while they shop in its stores - and that some will even post their finds to social media.
That's the thrust of an article on CNET that detailed the ways in which Target's Cartwheel program has improved. A previous iteration was difficult to find online and clumsy to use.
Now a new standalone app, available for Android or iOS users, lets consumers select up to 12 offers and get the discounts at the store. While shoppers are offered deals when they log in, the most efficient way to shop, according to CNET, is to browse by category. Some offers even come with award badges, creating a game-like experience.
And while the app is accessed through Facebook - users can shut off the feature that would essentially let friends know the bargains they gained. That is, if they want to.
