Stone named top WPS information officer

David Stone has joined WestPoint Stevens Inc. as senior vp, information technology and chief information officer, a new position.

Stone joins the major mill from Deloitte Consulting, Charlotte, NC, where he had worked since 1984, as a partner since 1990. Prior positions included senior manager, manager and a senior consultant. Before joining Deloitte, he was director of information systems with Martin Marketing, Charlotte, NC, from 1980, and prior to that had worked with Odell Associates of Charlotte, NC.

In his new post, which he will begin on Oct. 1, he will divide his time between WestPoint's information technology offices at corporate headquarters here, and at the Clemson, SC, manufacturing complex.

"His background spans almost 30 years," said Dupuy Sears, senior vp, finance and cfo, to whom Stone reports. "His experience includes a number of years dealing with information technology relating to textiles, apparel and sewn products industries, as well as non-textile-related industries. He also has extensive experience in supply chain management and business intelligence. He'll be a welcome addition to our management team."

Stone graduated magna cum laude from Furman University, Greenville, SC, with a bachelor's degree in chemistry, and studied for two years in the computer science Ph.D. program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
