Technology Marks Basics Intros

Product innovation and technology led the charge in basic bedding this fall as Leggett & Platt, Pacific Coast Feather and United Feather & Down pulled out all the stops on several new introductions.

Leggett & Platt rolled out heavy-hitting new technology with Vitalize KoolRest and Air Rest, a Tallay process and a Revitalize antimicrobial, antibacterial aroma therapy line. The Tallay process is a combination of down and latex foam in which the down wraps around a latex core giving it a springy feel.

KoolRest memory foam features a 95 percent improved air flow through open cells that create a cool sleep surface and wick away moisture. A mattress topper and three pillows are offered in extra firm, firm and plush densities with two covers in nylon and velour. The topper is posterized for lumbar support and features a double layer of KoolRest foam in two densities with interior sculpturing between layers.

Air Rest features a mattress topper and a pillow that each come with on-air valves and a pump for inflation. These products combine KoolRest foam and balanced air that does not transfer with added pressure. They provide consumers with the ability to choose their level of support. In addition, a queen or king-size topper has two chambers with two air valves for individual sleeping preferences. The topper also has a terry cover that is waterproof yet air permeable.

Pacific Coast Feather has introduced several new innovations to enhance the performance of its basic bedding products.

One such product is Enhanced Comfort Lock in which a down comforter features special stitching along its borders to keep it fluffy and trap the down even when it's draped on a bed. The Duo Touch down comforter features two products in one with a lightweight 340-count cotton top and a heftier 205-count brushed cotton underside.

Also new is the Ringlet Featherbed with sewn-through ringlet stitching that traps feathers throughout the body of the featherbed. The new Euro Rest featherbed features a diamond-quilted top layer that keeps feathers from poking through. In addition, Pacific Coast has developed a new bag with reinforced support straps to handle the product's weight.

United Feather & Down has introduced the Dual-Mate specialty down comforter, Travel Pillow Mate, Quilted SoftTop pillow, Quilted Easy Off featherbed and Kocuchi Contour Pillow. The Dual-Mate is zippered on two sides providing two different densities on the bed for various levels of warmth. The product is being accessorized with down booties in 20 colors and diamond-quilted down robes in four spa colors. The latter two are being packaged together as a $99.99 spa set.

The Travel Pillow Mate is a zippered down-filled pillow cover in which a hotel pillow can be inserted. It comes in sage and brick. The Quilted SoftTop pillow is fully quilted with a two-inch gusset on a 200-count cotton twill cover. It is filled with 95/5 feathers and down for maximum support. The Quilted Easy Off featherbed is zippered all around with a quilted top that's removable for easy care.

The Kocuchi Contour Pillow features two chambers of Japanese microbeads, a notched center band for neck support and a removable zippered cover that is machine washable.
