Loftex Launches Bio-Hanger, Fun Towels

Arriving just in time for market, the perfected prototype of a bio-degradable hanger made its debut at towel supplier Loftex USA.

Featuring a patented zigzag design molded of a cornstarch-based polymer that breaks down within six months of disposal in a compost system, the new Loftex bio-hanger eliminates plastic waste — of which just 3% is currently recycled, the company said. Loftex is using the bio-hanger to display its beach towels, and is aiming for mass production in time for the summer 2010 beach season.

"Our environmentally-friendly, attractive bio-hanger ensures easy transfer directly to the sales floor and importantly cuts down on our carbon footprint so consumers can feel good about indulging in a new colorful Loftex towel when enjoying a day at the pool or at the shore," said marketing director Miranda Busillo, who started work on developing the bio-hanger nearly a year ago.

Comprised of 100% biodegradable and renewable non-food grade cornstarch derivatives, the bio-hanger meets ASTM D6400 standards, Loftex added. Details can be found at

"Loftex is doing this for the environment and is committed to sustainability," said Loftex coo Gretchen Dale. "It's not really about the consumers but about us and the retailers constantly striving for manufacturing excellence and maintaining functionality along with better sustainable manufacturing processes."

Loftex also bowed the Sun Seen beach towel, which like a chameleon changes its color to adapt to its surroundings — and under the sun is where these towels show their true colors.

Triggered by UV rays, patterns that appear white under cover, turn a variety of colors when under the sun — ideally when stretched out by the pool or on the beach. These towels are 100% cotton and have been treated with a non-toxic chemical that allows colors to change upon solar contact. There are 12 funky patterns.

Additional beach towel offerings include the economical Lounge & Dry two-pack collection. These sets pair a larger 42-inch-by-72-inch towel for lounging on, and a smaller 30-by-60 towel for drying.

The towels match in color scheme but not directly in pattern. Each set includes a stripe and a polka dot.
