No home textiles on China tariff list -- so far

BEIJING -- The China Finance and Economy Publishing House has released a list of 148 products that will be subject to export tariffs beginning Jan. 1, 2005. Currently no home textiles products are listed.

The levy covers products in six apparel categories: coats, skirts, trousers, non-knitted shirts, knitted shirts, nightwear and underwear. A copy of the list provided to HTT by the U.S. Department of Commerce included a caveat from that department that the list may be subject to change. China’s Ministry of Commerce, which first announced the tariff program, has not yet indicated publicly whether the list is closed at 148 items or might be expanded.
