Rug vendors showcase wide array of looks

Suppliers are showcasing a number of new looks, in the form of both entirely new collections and revisions to existing lines, at this week's Rug Show here. The following is a look at what many of the industry's leaders will be unveiling.

For the first time, Balta U.S. will be exhibiting new products from its area rug division with a temporary booth on the second floor. On display will be promotional quantities of BCF constructions — all levels of heat-set rugs ranging from frieze yarns to million-point to two-ply construction varieties. In addition, Balta will offer a complete line of 100 percent pure wool rugs from several different design collections.

Burlington Rug Corp. will be introducing new product and collections in all of its rug construction categories — including tufted, printed, hand-hooked, hand-tufted and hand-knotted varieties made both domestically at headquarters here and imported from throughout Asia and parts of Europe. The entire selection will be available in assorted sizes, from scatter to room size, as well as some bath offerings.

Capel is introducing four new collections this summer. Metro, hand-tufted in China of 100 percent wool, available in seven patterns, is set to retail at $500 for a 5' x 8'; Carnival, hand-tufted in India of 100 percent wool, is available in six patterns and set to retail at $412.50 for a 5' x 8'; Campfire, hand-tufted in India of 100 percent olefin, is available in a single pattern and set to retail at $497.50 for a 5' x 8'; and Regal, hand-tufted in a Patina wash in India of 100 percent wool, is available in 20 patterns and set to retail for $412.50 for a 5' x 8'.

New collections and additions to existing lines are part of Carpet-Art-Deco's July debut.

Ambiente, a five-frame heat set olefin collection, features modern designs in blue, burgundy, green, shell and beige tones. A 6' x 9' is set to retail for $149. Festival, a 10-frame heat set olefin collection, features modernized traditional designs in blue/black, yellow, orange, green, red, white and burgundy. A 6' x 9' is set to retail for $249. Gala, also made of heat set olefin, has eight new traditional designs, and a 6' x 9' is set to retail for $249. And finally, Niya, a New Zealand wool collection, has six new traditional designs

A 6' x 9' is set to retail for $799.

New introductions include three new collections and additions to existing lines from Central Oriental, a division of Natco Products.

The company is emphasizing for its July introductions the Premiere Collection, a 1.5-million-points-per-square-meter construction in eight colors and a variety of traditional designs and a retail price point of $399 for a 6' x 9', and the Infinity Collection, a 2-million-points-per-square-meter construction in six colors in an array of designs and a retail price point of $449 for a 6' x 9'.

Also new is the Platinum Collection, a space-dyed nylon line with 32 colors. These rugs are produced domestically in the company's new manufacturing facility in Maine and are set to retail for $399 for a 6' x 9'.

New additions to juvenile, nautical and equestrian styles are the fashion at Claire Murray this July.

The new 48-inch round size — set to retail for $279 — has been added to the Noah's Ark design, which currently comes as a 5' x 7' rectangle and a 32" x 66" runner. It depicts the fabled story in Murray's signature soft color palette with splashes of primary colors. Sailors Delight is also now available in a large 72-inch round, set to retail for $599.

Couristan's latest additions to its lineup include four collections, all of which are made of wool.

Royal Imperial is hand-knotted in India and is made of 100 percent worsted New Zealand wool with a luster wash and carries a $2,226.40 retail price point for a 5' 6" x 8' 6".

The Kingston Collection is a 100 percent wool, multi-point weave, power-loomed rug made in Bulgaria set to retail for $319 for a 5' 7" x 8'.

The Pebbles Collection is hand-loomed in India of 100 percent blended pure natural wool and is set to retail for $755.70 for a 7' 9" x 9' 9".

And the Calcutta collection is hand-crafted in India of 100 percent worsted New Zealand wool with a double wash treatment and features Persian designs. It is set to retail for $1,478.40 for a 5' 6" x 8' 6".

Three new collections will debut this market from Dalyn Rugs.

The Seaside Collection offers three selections of textured rugs, each featuring a natural fiber base bound with a 2.5-inch tan cotton binding. It comes in 12 standard sizes, with a custom size option.

The Veranda Collection is comprised of ultra-soft rugs available in 11 designs ranging from botanicals and fruits to classic and traditional looks with updated colorways. It is constructed of a polyester/polypropylene blend for a soft hand. And the Savannah Collection is made up of rugs featuring a soft loop, high-low construction that allows for fashion-oriented patterns and also durability and softness.

D.L.S. Industries, a manufacturer of fabricated area rugs, is introducing its new Monterey Collection at the upcoming market. It is comprised of made of a heavy, 100 percent nylon, shag carpet. The styles range from simple bordered shapes to geometric and contemporary abstract looks. Price points range from $499 to $1,399.

Among its new introductions for this market, Ebisons Harounian will debut a series of goods imported from Afghanistan, China, India, Iran, Nepal, Pakistan and Turkey.

Reflections, an antique adaptation of Agra, Mahal and Sultanabad designs in gold and bronze, is set to retail for $1,599 for a 6' x 9'. Golden Horizon, Sino Persian rugs in 160-, 200- and 230-line, is set to retail for $999 for a 6' x 9'. Katmandu, featuring transitional, Savonneri and wildlife motifs, is set to retail for $1,099 for a 6' x 9'. Tatar, woolen hand-knotted Oushak rugs made in China, is set to retail for $799 for a 6' x 9'. And Peshawar, antique replicas of Zeigler, Mahal and Sultanabad rugs made by Afghani refugees in Pakistan, is set to retail for $1,299 for a 6' x 9'.

828 International has a large introduction in place with 68 new designs from five new collections.

Accents, a collection of eight hand-hooked rugs in soft colors and contemporary patterns, is available in four sizes — 6-foot rounds, 2' x 3', 4' x 6' and 5' x 8'— with price points averaging $299 for a 5' x 8'. Highlights, featuring a combination of two- and three-ply yarns in extra-long lengths resembling the shag look and thick texture, is available in eight solid and multi-hued colorways and three sizes — 2' x 3', 4' x 6' and 5' x 8' — with a suggested retail price of $299 for a 5' x 8'. Mosaic, a 100 percent wool hand-knotted contemporary collection consisting of two rugs in color combinations of black with white and ivory with white in a cobblestone design, is available in three sizes — 4' x 6', 5' x 8' and 8' x 10'— with the average price point set at $399 for a 5' x 8'. Royal Gems, a collection of 10 traditional styles in ivory, green and black and designed like 828's existing Royal Millennium collection of power-loomed, heat-set polypropylene rugs with 1.5 million points per square meter, is available in assorted sizes, with a suggested retail price point of $399 for a 5' x 8'. And Summit, which represents the company's first wool-and-silk blend collection, is hand-tufted and available in 11 patterns in a palette of berry, blue, green, pink, black, beige and cream in floral patterns, three sizes — 5' x 8', 8' x 10' and 9' x 12' — with a suggested retail of $599 for a 5' x 8'.

Feizy Rugs will introduce one of its most diverse groupings of rug collections, The Feizy Home Collection, which includes Bent Tree, Manhattan and Mountaineer Collections. Bent Tree is inspired by traditional Persian rugs; Manhattan combines a traditional Tibetan-style foundation with chic, modern designs; and Mountaineer embraces the simplicity of Southwest styles with a strong color palette.

Also highlighted in the Feizy Home Collection will be new designs in the Capital, Spencer, Pietra, and Oscar collections.

Hellenic is gearing up for a sizeable introduction for this market.

Its new Kate Ward Thacker collection, a licensed line designed by the artist, comes in eight patterns in more than 70 colors and is comprised of hand-tufted rugs in India made of 100 percent wool. They are set to retail for $499 for a 5' x 8'.

Hellenic's new Nepalese worsted-wool hand-knotted collection from India includes four patterns designed by the artist Yeager, set to retail for $799 for a 5' x 8'.

Indian area rug importer Kalaty Rug Corp. is preparing to expand its collection with shaped offerings for the first time. The program consists of several Wools of New Zealand Brand collections, including Jaipura, Lateef, Le Palais, Nomad and Serafina. Through the Kalaty Shapes program, these hand-knotted rugs are available in 8-, 10- and 12-foot runners as well as rounds and squares. Kalaty's Jaipura collection comes in gallery sizes of 4' x 8' and 4' x 10'.

For the Original Karastan Collection, new introductions include Imperial Kirman, a paisley pattern and Ivory Tabriz, featuring an ivory field filled with palms and a scrolling vinery.

For the Antique Legends Limited Editions, Karastan is adding the new Antique Kirman. The third in this Limited Edition series, it uses one of Karastan's top-ranking patterns — the Antique Kirman— with the company's special vintage finish.

Antique Legends' newest offerings include new size additions to both the Agra Black in a 4' 3" x 6' and Bakhtiyari styles in 4' 3" x 6', 10' x 14' and a runner.

New this season for the Palazzo collection of value priced New Zealand wool Wilton woven rugs are casual looks. Patterns include Bella Fiore, a garden floral; and Tuscan Hills, a Ushak-inspired style.

Kas is adding new looks to three collections for this July market.

The machine-made and hand-finished Lotus Series, introduced in April, is gaining seven new patterns, including Ric Rac, Match Sticks and Wood Panel.

The Princeton Series, made of 100 percent faux silk viscose, will gain 30 new patterns available in six sizes, from 20" x 31" scatter to 8 'x 11' room size.

And the India-made hand-tufted Indira Collection of contemporary designs comes in 20 patterns and is available in four sizes, including a 2' x 8' runner.


Concord, Ontario (866) KORHANI

The new Monarch collection utilizes a state-of-the-art double-point process to bring forth more than 200 colorations. Monarch, made of 100 percent heat-set polypropylene, also features sculpting techniques in its 13 designs. It is set to retail for $449 for a 5' x 8'.

The new Patchwork Collection uses a dual yarn system with cut-and-loop sculptured designs in a contemporary style. It is made of 100 percent heat-set olefin and is available in 21 designs, all set to retail for $199 for a 5' x 8'.

Korhani's licensed Bill Blass collection of machine-woven olefin area rugs includes hand-woven pieces made with fine New Zealand wool for a soft hand and a lustrous sheen. The rugs are set to retail for $450 for a 5' x 8'.

Louis de Poortere's latest Wools of New Zealand introductions includes a new collection of tribal-themed rugs.

Navajo is a flat weave collection of 14 tribal rugs woven in a palette of muted shades that comes in standard sizes with a suggested retail of $199 for a 6' x 9'.

Mossoul is getting two runner and broadloom patterns in the same blue color combinations that the company debuted in January. These patterns blend Persian and Oriental influences and carry a suggested retail of $9.99 per square foot for the broadloom and $24.99 per linear square foot for the roll runner in a 26-inch width.

Masland's popular Translations area rug collection, featuring combinations of jacquard fabric borders and carpet textures, is being expanded with 20 new fabric selections and three new carpet textures. Each fabric is paired with coordinating colors from Bandala, Sea Island and Suede — three signature Masland carpet styles. Rugs are precision crafted with single outside fabric borders and are available in five standard sizes — 4' x 6', 6' x 9', 8' x 10', 9' x 12' and 12' x 14' — with a suggested retail price for a 6' x 9' starting at $999. The fabrics range in design from sophisticated scroll borders of deep, rich hues and traditional motifs to more dramatic, bold geometrics and festive contemporary shapes.

Milliken has several new introductions for this July market event. The company is expanding its merchandising solution package for its Signature and Innovations collections with a full-color brochure, a POP rug tag and a new size — a 2.8' x 3.10' rectangle — which retails between $39 and $59, increasing the skus from 45 to 50 per design.

The POP rug tag comes in up to six colors and 10 size images per design as well as a full-color brochure detailing the merchandising story.

The Chris Madden Collection from Mohawk's Goodwin Weavers division is a diverse range of looks. It is composed of woven rugs in 14 designs — ranging from 3' x 5' to 5' x 8' sizes — inspired by Madden's decorating books, furniture collection and personal collection of fabrics and mementos. The suggested retail prices on a 5' x 8' range from $199.99 to $299.99.

The Beau Soleil Collection captures a French country look. It's a grouping featuring warm colors and designs ranging from florals like Ambiance to clean geometric patterns like Toulouse. It encompasses 20 woven designs in total and has a suggested retail of $149.99 for a 5' x 8'.

Noonoo Rug Co. will feature popular price collections for the first time — new textures, designs and finishes will be part of the new grouping of tufted and hand-knotted rugs, such as the Chandi Collection of hand-knotted rugs from India that carry a suggested retail price point of $630 for a 6' x 9'.

The new Beauvais collection offers an array of classic 18th-century French designs in a hand-crafted wool-pile with silk accents construction.

The new Bellmore Gardens is handcrafted with fine 100 percent wool yarn.

The India House Collection features both classic traditional styles and contemporary motifs in a 100 percent wool-pile construction.

The Julian Collection consists of hand-tufted and hand-carved rugs constructed of 100 percent wool-pile, all luster-washed for added sheen.

Magic's new hues are curry and rosemary. The new colors for Interlude are dusk, night sky and primrose.

OWA is launching three new major collections this market with three new color banks.

Named for the oldest and best-known pyramid in Egypt, the new Saggara Collection, woven with a high-density pile and 100 percent heat-set olefin, features traditional designs in eight updated colors. The suggested retail for a 6' x 9' is $199.

The Summit collection, featuring earthy tones, is woven with a specially developed, heavier, 2,200-heat-set yarn system and carries a suggested retail price for a 6' x 9' is $129.

The Plateau collection is an eight-color drop stitch product made up of both transitional and traditional carved designs.

Three new collections are lined up for debut from The Rug Market this month.

English Bouquet, featuring traditional looks with an antique-type green background and bold bouquets of pink and red roses and forget-me-nots, is hand-hooked in 100 percent wool and has a suggested retail price of $229 for a 6' x 9'.

Synergy, a contemporary style with a simplistic design of quad-tone blocks in bright fashion colors of red, orange, fuchsia and pink, is handmade and hand-tufted in 100 percent wool and has a suggested retail price of $299 for a 6' x 9'.

Tropical Palms, a sophisticated look featuring palm trees on a woven tan background, is handmade and hand-tufted in 100 percent wool and has a suggested retail price of $299 for a 6' x 9'.

Shaw Rugs recently added golf legend Jack Nicklaus to its growing roster of licenses, which also includes Martha Stewart, Kathy Ireland and Tommy Bahama, among others.

For the Jack Nicklaus line, Shaw will produce two separate collections. For the regular domestic line the company will make woven wool rugs in 14 to 16 patterns set to retail for $699 for a 6' x 9' and a more promotional line of sports memorabilia rugs made of woven polypropylene in five patterns set to retail for $99 to $199 for a 30" x 50".

The Serendipity collection is made of a durable nylon with a rich, low-luster finish on a printed loop base. One such design in the collection, Linear Dusk, features vibrant colorways.

Sphinx, by Oriental Weavers, will bow six handmade rug collections and debut line extensions to its award-winning handmade Details collection and four machine-made collections in Atlanta.

The Details collection is gaining added fashion accents, like embroidered insets ranging from elegant florals to classic American motifs, and woven strips of leather as well as the addition of rugs in the French country and nautical styles.

Also, a total of six new hand-tufted and hand-knotted collections made in India and China will be introduced, including the Hacienda and Options collections that are set to retail for $299 to $999. Hacienda features a Nepalese construction with a Southwest theme. Options is an affordable and casual line of hand-carved, hand-surged and hand-finished rugs.

For its machine-made collections Sphinx is adding four extensions — Ariana, Icon, Khyber Pass and Generations collections. Ariana features Persian designs; Icon features an ultra-dense hand with a drop-stitch finish; Khyber Pass is based on the historic and cultural designs from the Peshawar region of Pakistan; and Generations features the company's cross-woven construction with up to 36 colors in each design.

Building on the success of its licensed line of Echo rugs, Trade Am is adding 15 new designs made with fine New Zealand yarn in an Indo-Tibetan hand-knotted construction. They are set to retail for $1,799 for a 5' x 8'.

Other constructions in the collection include hand-woven natural fibers, hand-looped wool pile, hand-tufted wool and hand-knotted wool in accent and room-size dimensions.

Also new this market is Trade Am's renewed focus on its color palette, which has several new combinations. They include Opulence, based on rich gold, red, aubergine and camel; Barocco, a browned burgundy and black with hints of gold and red in a saturated tone; and Patina, influenced by tarnished bronze tones with touches of teal and brass.

Also new this market is Trade Am's entire collection of wool and wool/chenille flat-weaves in more than 20 designs.

Three new collections as well as new additions to two existing lines are poised to debut.

The new collections are Cosmo, a 50 percent cotton and 50 percent wool Indian hand-tufted collection available in five designs and set to retail for $499 for a 5' x 8'; Pioneer, a 100 percent wool collection handmade in China with six designs and set to retail for $199 for a 5' x 8'; and Fireside, a 100 percent wool collection handmade in China with a suggested retail price of $199 for a 5' x 8'.

Additions are being made to INCA, a 100 percent wool pile collection of hand-tufted-in-India rugs set to retail for $299 for a 5' x 8'; and Sahara, a 100 percent wool pile collection hand-tufted in China and set to retail for $299 for a 5' x 8'.

From the new Minster Collection comes a variety of archival designs, including Victoriana, which features a composition made up of floral scrolls typical of the 1840s English tapestry styling. It is based on a royal piece created specifically to please Queen Victoria and is inspired by the Woodward Grosvenor designs previously selected by to grace the halls of Balmoral Castles and other residences.
