Shaw Rugs acquires Georgia Tufters
April 22, 2003-- Home Textiles Today,
Dalton, GA — Area rug supplier Shaw Rugs has acquired bath and accent rug and top-of-bed manufacturer and importer Georgia Tufters Inc. from majority owners Jeff and Fredrick Brown.
Jeff Meadows, division vp of Shaw Rugs, said Shaw is "very pleased" with its acquisition, which marks two major milestones for Shaw Rugs — its entry into the new categories of bath rugs and a probable move into the ranks of the 15 home textiles suppliers, as ranked by HTT.
Shaw Rugs reported $127 million in area rug sales in 2002, making it the third largest supplier in that category. Georgia Tufters came in fifth place with $35 million in sales for bath rugs, the largest facet of the company's total $45 million in sales in 2002.
"Georgia Tufters has been a well-managed operation, with product lines highly complementary to our current offerings of custom tufted, fabricated, printed and machine-woven rugs," Meadows said. "Rick Brown, Jeff Brown, Tommy Caldwell and the rest of the management team have maintained excellent relationships with their key customers in the mass merchant, catalog and specialty store categories. We will now be able to offer our combined customers an even broader selection of rug products with unmatched style, value, and quality."
Georgia Tufters will maintain operations at its headquarters in Calhoun, GA.
