Perfect Fit looks to reap rewards of licensing deal

Perfect Fit Industries has come to the April market showing the fruits of a licensing partnership struck last year with mattress producer Spring Air; a microfiber line dubbed Conforma; and an upgrade to its legendary BedSack line.

The Spring Air relationship has spawned a pair of lines aimed at the department and specialty store channels — the Four Seasons Luxury Bedding collection and the Spring Air premium collection — that take their inspiration from the tricks of the mattress industry, which has consistently boosted product construction and price point parameters.

"You look at what they've done with their product line, and you walk away with a very different point of view," said Lou Morris, president and ceo, Perfect Fit. "They've also done a good job of trading their customer up."

The key lesson, according to Perfect Fit vp of sales and marketing Bill De Piazza, is that mattress makers have steadily embellished the perceived value of their product. "The bed business has created inviting product with quilting, pillow tops and toppers," he said. "We're bringing those elements into our mattress pads to give them that custom, almost-handmade look."

Four Seasons pairs 300-count natural cotton fabrications with natural cotton and down fills. Products in the line include a natural cotton mattress pad, the step-up plush pad, a baffled box featherbed and a quilted bed pillow with a down filled cover and white goose feather fill.

The Spring Air premium collections include mattress pads, bed pillows and the company's firm foam core pillow, which is covered in a 200-count, all-cotton tick bearing the Spring Air logo.

In synthetic fills, Perfect Fit's new Conforma Ultra-Microfiber line employs tens of thousands of Ultra-Microfibers to mimic the loft of natural fills.

Created as a good/better/ best program, Conforma fabrications include 200-count cotton products, 250 Egyptian products and 300-count sateen. Among the skus are the "unfeatherbed," mattress pads, gussetted pillows with double-corded covers and bed pillows.

Perfect Fit also is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its BedSack line of mattress pads. Its new BedSack 400 is engineered to fit over mattresses up to 22 inches. Other additions to the program include the BedSack Flexwall 300, an overfilled pad with a 300-count Egyptian Cotton Cover that also accommodates 22-inch mattresses. The new Super Comfort Pad contains 12 ounces of polyester and can fit over 15-inch mattresses.

Under its licensed Waverly program, Perfect Fit is rolling out a variety of new Microdenier PowerPuff Girls synthetic down-like fills.
