Macy's to boost holiday hiring

Cincinnati - Expecting the holidays to be busier than last years, Macy's Inc. said it plans to hire about 80,000 seasonal associates - 2.5% more than in 2011 - for Macy's and Bloomingdale's stores, call centers, distribution centers and online fulfillment centers for the fourth-quarter season.

"Macy's traditionally implements one of the most robust holiday hiring programs in American retailing, and that will be the case again in 2012," said Terry Lundgren, chairman, president and ceo.

Most of the positions are part-time. Hiring for store sales positions will begin in mid-October. The company has already begun hiring for sales support positions, such as in distribution centers, call centers and store receiving.

On a year-round basis, Macy's Inc. employs about 175,000 people.
