Filene's taps former Melville exec for merchant post

Columbus, OH — Value City Department Stores has hired Jerald Politzer to serve as Filene's Basement's executive vp of merchandising.

Most recently, he was ceo of Secure Connections. Politzer was chairman and ceo with men's apparel company Salant Corp. from 1997 to 1999. He was executive vp of Melville Corp. from 1989 to 1996, where he had responsibilities including the oversight of six store divisions with annual sales of $2 billion to $6 billion. Prior to 1989, he was president and ceo of G. Fox Stores.

"His contacts throughout the retail community will provide a significant contribution to our merchandising initiatives," said Heywood Wilansky, president and ceo of Filene's Basement.
