Sugar Valley, Ga. -- Performance fibers are at the core of American Rug Craftsmen's new offerings this year, with a roster of collections featuring enhanced comfort, durability and environmentally-friendly attributes.
One example is the Symphony Collection featuring the company's own EverStrand PET fiber made from recycled bottles.
The company's existing Dryden Collection, which is woven from eco-friendly soft SmartStrand Triexta fiber, is "the number one selling product in the American Rug Craftsmen product line," said Brandon Culpepper, vp of specialty sales for Mohawk. "That's why we came up with Symphony. We saw a demand for American-made, environmentally responsible products. The Symphony Collection delivers beauty and durability at a reasonable price-plus it is made of 100% recycled content."
Symphony, which launched this week during the Atlanta International Area Rug Market, spans relaxed transitional looks from florals and fretworks to suzanis and Persian designs.
Also in the queue for launch are two new printed rug collections that Culpepper said are crafted in the USA using Mohawk's new higher resolution printing capacity, "which makes rugs of great detail and beautiful color using the softest nylon yarn on the market. With these two new collections, we reach new markets with products."
American Rug Craftsmen is also debuting two new nylon printed rug collections --
Crib to College, which is geared toward the preteen and young teen market but can also appeal to youthful twentysomethings as well; and Escape, a grouping that features the look of New England petit point hand-hooked rugs featuring coastal motifs, like beach cottages, mountain lodges, cowboy dude ranches, sea-cruising yachts and others apt to its name.
Finally, a collection of new shags called Modern are also being shown. "Shags are a huge growth area for 2014," Culpepper said. "Texture is a large component of rug appeal right now, and the most important part of texture is ‘softness.' Our new shags tap into that desire for softness and high performance."
The two new woven shag collections are Cascade and Augusta, and both are made of Permastrand polypropylene, Mohawk's high-performing branded polypropylene fiber.
