Mississauga, Ont.- Its Canadian launch got off to a rocky start last year, but Target plans to continue its expansion in 2014 by adding another nine store locations.
Target opened 124 Target stores across 10 provinces in 2013, said Tony Fisher, president, Target Canada. The retailer plans to open five stores in Ontario and one store each in Alberta, British Columbia, Quebec and Manitoba.
Target's Canadian stores carry a wide range of Target owned and exclusive brands as well as local products specific to each market. Target Canada employs an average of 150 team members at each of its Canadian locations.
The announcement comes as the retailer has stumbled a bit in its Canadian debut with reports of low inventory at its new stores. The company said during an earnings conference call that initial sales and profits in Canada were lower than expected.
