Hudson's Bay Co. creates digital group

Toronto and New York - Add Hudson's Bay Company to the roster of retailers looking to beef up their digital commerce efforts this year.

HBC has created HBC Digital, a group responsible for digital commerce and marketing. Michael Burgess has been named president of the unit and will report to the office of the chairman.
The unit will oversee strategy and execution in partnership with each of HBC's business units, including Saks Fifth Avenue, Lord & Taylor, Hudson's Bay and HBC Outlets. In addition, HBC Digital will also lead digital marketing efforts across the company.

Burgess is president of Saks Direct, Saks Fifth Avenue's ecommerce component. Previously, he was executive vp for the consumer division for the FTD florists network. Prior to that, he was vp and general manager for Internet business at Teleflora, a position he moved to after serving as president for Better Life Media, a multi-media network that produced self-help and motivational TV programming.

Richard Baker, chairman and ceo of HBC, noted, "HBC Digital will leverage our scale and will help unlock a great deal of opportunity across all of our businesses."

Burgess said, "I am extremely excited about this new opportunity. Digital is transforming the shopping experience online and in store. We have a terrific team at HBC and a great opportunity to build a wonderful experience for our customers for each of our retail banners."
