Muji Santa Monica store to open

, March 6, 2014

New York - Muji U.S.A. said that a new Muji store will open in Santa Monica in late spring, the retailer's ninth store in the U.S.

Muji Santa Monica will be located at 2936 Main Street and have approximately 6,300 square feet of retail floor space. The company has a home department and offers products such as a cotton jersey duvet cover for $57.25 for a twin.

Mujirushi Ryohin, or "Muji" in Japanese means "no-brand quality goods." The brand aims for "modesty and plainness," and the retailer said it is able to achieve its lower prices "by avoiding the waste typical of much product-manufacturing and distribution - in the form of unnecessary functionality, an excess of decoration, and needless packaging."
The retailer's first store, Muji Soho opened in 2007. Founded in 1980, Muji has 387 stores in Japan and 231 stores in other countries. Parent company Ryohin Keikaku Co. is a public company traded on the Tokyo Stock Exchange with $2.35 billion in sales in 2012.
