Kyocera’s Limited Cutlery Series wins 2014 Red Dot award

Costa Mesa, Calif. – The Kyocera Limited Cutlery Series, which features handcrafted Pakka wood handles and proprietary advanced ceramic blades, won a Red Dot Product Design Award.
Kyocera combined traditional Japanese craftsmanship and modern ceramic technology to create the cutlery series. The company incorporated traditional Pakka wood handles, which are handcrafted by artisans in Seki Japan, a first for the company. The gently curved shape is contoured to the palm for an ergonomic design that enhances cutting performance. This shape is not typically found in today’s marketplace because it is time-consuming to produce.
The handcrafted black blades feature Kyocera’s proprietary Zirconia 206 ceramic, which the company said offers superior edge retention and are stronger and denser than other ceramic blades. Kyocera said its blades hold their edge at least 10 times longer than professional high carbon steel cutlery.
The collection includes a range of five knives priced $109.95 to $139.95.
