IFDA to raise funds to “Help Heroes at Home”
April 24, 2014-- Home Textiles Today,
New York – Encouraged by the success of its inaugural event last year, the International Furnishings & Design Association is bringing back its “Take A Seat” (TAS) fund-raising chair up-cycling project aimed at helping less-fortunate members of the community via several charitable organizations.
The TAS effort features one-of-a-kind chairs created by area design professionals, artists, and craftspeople using up-cycled materials.
Proceeds will benefit the overall IFDA TAS initiative called Helping Heroes at Home, raising funds and awareness for a variety of charities such as Habitat for Humanity, Wheelchair Foundation, Project Home and more.
This year, six chapters are planning to participate in Take A Seat chair exhibits and events. The New York chapter’s event is scheduled May 14 at Room&Board with the gala auction; the other five chapters --Philadelphia, Boca Raton, Scottsdale, Washington D.C., and San Francisco – will follow suit in October. Specific information for these locations and dates will be announced soon on the IFDATakeASeat.com website, IFDA said.
Last year’s event was held simultaneously in three locations and featured chairs on public exhibition in New York, San Diego, and Osaka, Japan, before being auctioned to benefit the relief efforts.
Noted Karen Wirrig, fellow of IFDA: “We are proud that IFDA chapters raised more than $16,000 in 2013 to help fund relief projects for victims of Hurricane Sandy in the US and the Tsunami in Japan."
