Former Crate & Barrel ceo Barbara Turf, 71

Chicago – Former Crate & Barrel ceo Barbara Turf passed away July 12 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Details for services have not yet been finalized.

Company ceo Sascha Bopp, who succeeded Turf in 2012, released the following statement: “Barbara Turf’s impeccable eye for style, trend and design defined the merchandising and marketing vision of Crate and Barrel. She touched the lives of thousands of associates and developed invaluable relationships with vendors across the globe. Crate and Barrel would not be the company it is today without Barbara’s leadership, influence and inspiration. She will be missed dearly.”

Turf began her career with Crate as a part-time saleswoman in 1967, according to the Chicago Tribune. She stepped into the chief’s role in 2008 upon the retirement of Crate founder Gordon Segal.
